Teachers are often tagged as the students’ second parents. In most occasions, teachers also end up to be close friends with their students. But, a teacher and a student being in a relationship have always been wrong in the eyes of many.

In most cases, these types of situation don’t survive the judgmental eyes of the society. Yet, Erwin and Vinda of Amurang, Sulawesi Utara, Indonesia proved them contrarily as they were able to conquer all the prejudices thrown to them and did not let the society dictate them.

Erwin Pangaila was a local high school teacher at the time and he met his student, Vinda Virginia. Vinda Virginia was just 13 years old but he already sees Erwin as “The One” for her.

Vinda was one of the students who vied for the attention of the then single and popular teacher Edwin Pangaila. But these students only see Edwin as one of their many crushes, a common thing in high school. Given that they are still young, they don’t see love in him.

But, she was different. She sees Edwin differently from all of them. She was determined to get his attention so she made ways to get closer to him. The young hopeful would often resort to pretending she doesn’t know the answer to her assignments and asking Erwin for help. She would even stay longer in the classroom than her classmates.

Erwin paid no attention to Vinda for he only sees her as his student. He was also 27 years old then, making a 14-year age cap between him and his student. But, as time went by, he could no longer deny that he was already falling for the young girl.

He courted the girl and, eventually, they became a couple. He even escorted Vinda in her prom night. Time passed and Vinda finished college with Erwin still on his side.

Seven years later, Erwin and Vinda finally exchanged their wedding vows. They now enjoy a happy family, showering love to their first-born child. There were still some who disfavor their relationship which they chose to ignore. But the people who admire their strong love for each other and the way they defy the norms of the society were much greater.
