Luck in love because of a… Mole?

Do you believe in charms? If so, do you believe that 'moles' bring charms? According early beliefs of the elders, moles in specific positions in the human body brings charm and dictates one's future.

They say that having a mole/moles on the forehead indicates intelligence, in the mouth as into gossips, in the passageway of tears for unsuccessful marriage, in the hand as lucky for money, and in the armpit as lucky for... Love?

Anngeline Pagaray from Ilo-ilo believes in such! This 23 year-old believes her moles are her charms for finding true love because her moles are no ordinary.  Anngeline has moles that are the size of pebbles and and are often mistaken as warts.

Alarmed by the oddity of her moles, she went and consulted an 'albularyo' [folk healer] about it.

"Sabi ko baka kung ano 'yan kay kay pinatingnan namin sa magtatawas. Sabi niya, swerte nyo iyan. Swerte daw namin 'yan kasi may tumutubong nunal. Susuwertihin daw kami at magiging maayos daw ang pamumuhay namin," said Ana Pagaray, Anngeline's mother.

(I got worried so we brought her to a folk healer. The folk healer claims the moles are good luck. It's good luck because the moles are growing. We will have good luck and will live well)

To prove the folk healer's claim, Anngeline narrated her experiences in love. Though she got pregnant at an early age of 16, she still feels lucky to have met her loving husband.

"Dumating sa buhay ko ang lalaking handang magpakasal sa akin," said Anngeline.
(A man who was willing to marry me came into my life)

With the condition of Anngeline's moles,  she admitted to having a hard time most of the time. Her moles keep on growing and spreading to her body. She said that she often feels itchiness whenever her moles sweat. To ease it, she always wash it with water and detergent soap.

Anngeline has long wanted her moles to be checked by a professional but she could not afford to do so. She does laundry for a living and only earns Php 3,000 a month.

"Mahal ko yan. Syempre, gusto ko matanggal lahat ng nunal niya upang makapamuhay ng normal na walang kinatatakutan," stated Melvin Aquino, Anngeline's husband.

(I love her. That's why I want all the moles to be removed for her to have a normal life away from fear)

Kapuso Mo, Jesica Soho (KMJS) extended their help and accompanied Anngeline to a dermatologist. The dermatologist said Anngeline's moles are a case of epidermal nevus and it is not cancerous. The same dermatologist conducted a laser resurfacing to remove Anngeline's moles.
